We are pleased to announce our first set of IWA Professional training series for 2017. 


The two courses are co-designed with the IWA and led by Lisa Turnbull. A senior public affairs professional with over twenty years of experience, Lisa was the lead influencer on the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016. A member of the IWA policy team will also draw in other examples and facilitate discussion.



Course aims: 


To give learners a good understanding of how Government and politics works in Wales.


The course will provide an overview of the roles of the National Assembly and Welsh Government, and how decisions are made.


Learning outcomes: 


By participating in this course you will feel confident in your understanding of:



  • The roles of Ministers and AMs

  • How the Assembly and the Cabinet work

  • The differences between the political parties

  • The development of devolution

  • The relationship between Wales, Westminster and the EU

  • How public finance works in Wales



Who is this course for? 


This course is for people who want a good overview of the structures of decision making in Wales, and the forces that influence them.



Additional Information: 


This course will be followed by an advanced lobbying course “Influencing Political Outcomes“. Previous participants have recommended taking both courses for maximum insight.
