The two courses are designed by the IWA and led by Rhea Stevens. Rhea is the IWA’s Policy, Projects and External Affairs Manager. Rhea has seven years experience delivering policy change in Wales through influencing campaigns, including securing the legal right for children in care to stay with the foster parents until they are 21, through the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
Course aims:
To give learners a good understanding of how Government and politics works in Wales.
The course will provide an overview of the roles of the National Assembly and Welsh Government, and how decisions are made.
Learning outcomes:

- The roles of Ministers and AMs
- How the Assembly and the Cabinet work
- The differences between the political parties
- The development of devolution
- The relationship between Wales, Westminster and the EU
- How public finance works in Wales

This course is for people who want a good overview of the structures of decision making in Wales, and the forces that influence them.

This course will be followed by an advanced lobbying course “Influencing Political Outcomes“. Previous participants have recommended taking both courses for maximum insight.
