Keith Cass
Following a diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2007, Keith decided to set up the Red Sock Campaign to provide guidance and support to anyone affected by the illness.
He created a website to discuss his personal experience and provide links to further information and since then, has received phone calls and emails from nearly 1,000 patients and carers.
As founder of the charity, he aims to promote understanding and awareness of prostate cancer in Wales by making information easily available in layman’s language.
Mwenya Chimba
After conducting research on female genital mutilation (FGM) in Wales in 2008, Mwenya became determined to help address the issue.
Two years later, she set up the Bawso Female Genital Mutilation Health and Safeguarding Project to support women and young girls in Wales who have undergone or are at risk of undergoing the procedure.
The project aims to raise awareness about the health and psychological risks of FGM.
Jonathan Ridd and Jayne Nicholls
Following the death of their brother Paul, who suffered from a severe learning disability, Jonathan and Jayne have helped to implement recommendations that will improve the standard of care for adults in a similar position.
After Paul’s death in January 2004, an Ombudsman report was published, highlighting failures within the health board.
Jonathan and Jayne decided they wanted something positive to come from their brother’s death, which led them to become heavily involved in overseeing the implementation of the Ombudsman’s recommendations.
