The latest IWA Podcast discusses the re-election of Carwyn Jones as First Minister and the Plaid/Labour compact
With last Wednesday’s tie over the election of a First Minister a little bit of drama had come to Cardiff Bay. However, as the Assembly reconvened this afternoon things went a bit more smoothly for Carwyn Jones as he was re-elected First Minister of Wales.
A ‘compact’ between Plaid and Labour has emerged as the result of days of talks between the parties. The deal features an agreement over key areas of common ground for the parties for the first 100 days of a minority Labour Government; childcare, apprenticeships, GPs and a new National Infrastructure Committee.
As a result of the deal Plaid Cymru withdrew their nomination for Leanne Wood to be First Minister of Wales, but in her speech today Wood made it clear that if Labour did not respect their lack of a majority in the Senedd, Carwyn Jones’ team could end up in this situation again.
Discussing the latest events in the Senedd, Jess Blair was joined by Josh Miles, Daran Hill and Aaron Hill for a new IWA Podcast.
