Day 3 – Telling the story of your place

Join us for the Understanding Welsh Places Festival; series of online events supporting and inspiring local communities, decision-makers, planners and policy-makers to make positive changes to the places where they live and work.
On our final day of the Understanding Welsh Places Festival we look within Wales to places that have taken time to understand their uniqueness and individuality in order to help their places thrive.
Session 1
Discussion: Telling the story of your place
Join us as we explore what it means to tell the story of your place, to celebrate your uniqueness and harness your place’s power in order to thrive.

Session 2
Workshops
Following on from the discussion, we will then break out into workshops which will provide you with the knowledge and tools to help you tell the story of your place:
Option A: Town audits, place plans and community visioning: the models and toolkits on offeR. Place practitioner Chris Jones walks you through.
Option B: Planning and data clinic: bring your questions and challenges for the Understanding Welsh Places expert group
Option C: Community Wealth Building in Wales, John Heneghan (Associate Director) and David Burch (Senior Researcher) from the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) will discuss the following questions:
- What is Community Wealth Building?
- Why is it important?
- Where has it been implemented and what impact has it had?
Session 3
Networking
A central focus of Understanding Welsh Places is helping communities identify useful comparisons and igniting helpful conversations between places, and because networking opportunities are few and far between at the moment the IWA will facilitate break out networking sessions to feedback and discuss the lessons from the day and help you connect people on the call.
