I am an individual member of the IWA and ERS Cymru are an organisational member, too. I’ve supported the IWA for the past ten years. I think it is a really vital organisation to support, and I am delighted it’s in its 35^th year.

The IWA has really grown and developed with devolution in Wales, and without it, Welsh policy would be at a loss. The IWA has got a massive legacy in influencing, changing and shaping conversation about public life over the past quarter of a century, and I hope that it continues to do so in future.

In the thirty years I have been involved in studying and seeking to improve economic, social and environmental conditions in Wales, the IWA has been the single most consistent, valuable, clear-eyed and trustworthy partner. Much of my work simply could not otherwise have been done, and I know this is true of many of my colleagues. My award of a Fellowship ranks amongst my most treasured professional achievements and celebrates and solidifies this important relationship.

All healthy and prosperous societies need both ideas and intellectual challenge. The IWA has been contributing those essential ingredients in Wales for more than 35 years. They are needed today more than ever. Subscribing as a Fellow is a positive way of putting one’s shoulder to the wheel.

I am a long-time supporter of the IWA, and greatly value the contributions made to public life in Wales by the organisation. During my association with the IWA, firstly as a Fellow, then as a Board member, I have been impressed by the impact of policy interventions. It has given me great pleasure to see staff members develop their skills, often moving on to high-impact positions elsewhere.

The IWA is an important part of the civil society and policy intersection. I am delighted to continue to offer my support as a Fellow to help the IWA further its goal of making Wales better.

I’m both privileged and proud of my association with the IWA.  In a modern democracy IWA is encouraging debate, bringing together policy makers, academics, business, civic society and the public on the matters that should matter.  As well as enabling independent thinking, it is brokering policy ideas, challenging the status quo and incubating ideas that will improve Welsh society for future generations.

It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the IWA,  an organisation that draws on the innovative thinking of contributors across the full spectrum of Welsh society. Being membership led and non-politically aligned, it’s a great forum for encouraging debate and collaboration. I look forward to seeing the IWA continue to bring its influence to bear in its mission to make Wales better.
